Allentown, Pa., Explosion Leaves Three Dead, Two Missing

Three people were killed and two are missing after a powerful gasline explosion ripped through downtown Allentown, Pennsylvania.

According to the Police Chief Roger MacClean, one victim's body was discovered in a row house that was home to couple in their 70s. It wasn't immediately clear where the other two victims were found. A natural gas explosion rocked the Eastern Pennsylvania city of Allentown last night, leveling two houses and leaving behind fires that burned throughout the night.

The city, located in Lehigh County, has a population of about 111,000. The explosion, which occurred in a mainly residential downtown section of Allentown, killed at least one person, according to the AP. Five other individuals remain unaccounted for.

The 500 to 600 residents that were evacuated after the 10:45 p.m. explosion have since been allowed to return to their homes. ( Read Allentown PA more... )

Allentown, PA - A natural gas explosion in eastern Pennsylvania killed at least one person, leveled two houses, spawned fires that burned for more than seven hours and prompted the evacuation of hundreds of people. At least five others were unaccounted for Thursday.

The victim lived in two-story row house in a downtown residential neighborhood that blew up about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, police Chief Roger MacClean said. Allentown Pa, (CP) – A natural gas explosion rocked a downtown area during the night, leveling two houses and spawning fires that burned for hours in an entire row of houses nearby. One person was killed and at least five others were missing Thursday.

The victim was found in a townhouse with two floors in a residential area of downtown that has exploded on 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Police Chief Roger MacClean said.
