Billy Ray Fears For Miley Cyrus

America has watched with eyebrows arched as Miley Cyrus explodes into womanhood. Billy Ray Cyrus, who has also been watching from the outside of late, reveals his heartbreak and blames Disney hit Hannah Montana for destroying his family, in the new issue of GQ.

The magazine's "Mr. Hannah Montana's Achy Broken Heart" feature interview was conducted just after Miley's 18th birthday bong video incident and paints Billy Ray Cyrus as a heartbroken father sitting in the dark worrying about his daughter, her handlers and where he went wrong. Billy Ray Cyrus: Hannah Montana "Destroyed My Family"

Billy Ray Cyrus isn't acting these days, but he sure is talking a lot. GQ's Chris Heath visited the singer/actor/father's home in Tennessee just before Christmas, and Cyrus gave him an interview that Gawker pronounces a "trainwreck." Incidentally, Cyrus uses the same word to describe his daughter, 18-year-old fameball Miley Cyus.

The elder Cyrus says he's scared for his oldest daughter ("she's got a lot of people around her that's putting her in a great deal of danger") and he wishes he'd been a better parent ("I didn't know the ball was out of bounds until it was way up in the stands somewhere"), but now he feels like he's been shut out of Miley's life. Billy Ray Cyrus Regrets Being Miley’s Friend: A Lesson for All Parents

It’s never 100 percent clear to me why anyone is ever surprised when kids who get shoved into the spotlight at an early age melt down at some point later in life, like Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, Corey Haim, Demi Lovato, and Jodie Sweetin, to name just a very (very) few.

While she hasn’t landed in rehab or jail to date, Miley Cyrus is starting to show signs of trouble like those before her have also displayed along their paths to destruction. A video of the “Hannah Montana” star smoking a bong and a video of her performing a lap dance have surfaced in recent months, but now that she’s turned 18, it’s hard to wag a finger at anyone but her. Billy Ray Cyrus: 'I'm Scared For Miley' In GQ

She's a teen idol, but Miley Cyrus has been less than Disney squeaky clean the last few years. And it's starting to scare her dad.

Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley's father -- both off camera and on, as he played her dad in "Hannah Montana" -- spoke with GQ in a long interview, talking about his daughter's frequent slipups (salvia smoking, pole dancing, numerous racy photos, amongst others) and saying that he's been helpless to control them. Even if he's getting blamed. ( Read Billy Ray Cyrus more... )

Billy Ray Cyrus: 'That Damn Hannah Montana Destroyed My Family'

Billy Ray Cyrus said appearing on The Disney Channel's Hannah Montana -- the tween-oriented show which revived his career and made his daughter Miley a superstar -- might have been one of the worst things that ever happened to him.

"I'll tell you right now -- that damn show destroyed my family," the one-hit wonder-turned-famous-dad told GQ in its' March issue. "For my family to be here and just everybody okay, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic. ( Read Billy Ray Cyrus more... )

Billy Ray Cyrus: 'Hannah Montana' Caused Family Problems

Billy Ray Cyrus blames the Disney show 'Hannah Montana' for the problems his family has been experiencing, including his divorce from wife Tish.

Billy Ray Cyrus – Hannah Montana Shocker

Walt Disney could not have scripted this, but in the latest issue of GQ, Billy Ray Cyrus says that the fourth and final season of Hannah Montana, the show that made his daughter Miley a superstar, was “a disaster.”

“I was going to work every single day knowing that my family had fallen apart, but yet I had to sit in front of that camera,” he tells the magazine. “The damn show destroyed my family. And I sit there and go, ‘Yeah, you know what? Some gave all.’ It is my motto, and guess what? I have to eat that one. I some-gave-all’d it all right. I some-gave-all’d it while everybody else was going to the bank. It’s all sad.” ( Read Billy Ray Cyrus more... )

Billy Ray Cyrus: 'I'm Scared' for Miley

She may be an international star, but to Billy Ray Cyrus daughter Miley is still his little girl.

That's why it's been so difficult for him to watch the recent events: the infamous video of her smoking the herb salvia from a bong and the 18th birthday party that he refused to attend because it was in a bar. ( Read Billy Ray Cyrus more... )

Billy Ray Cyrus in GQ: My family is under attack by Satan, I'm 'scared for' daughter Miley

Since condemning Miley Cyrus' bong scandal in December, Billy Ray Cyrus hasn't said much about his daughter or the controversies that keep surrounding her.

But in an interview conducted a mere five days after the video leaked, for GQ's March issue, he comes out swinging. ( Read Billy Ray Cyrus more... )
