2011 Budweiser Shootout Starting Lineup: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Draws The Pole

The 2011 Budweiser Shootout lineup has just been set at the Budweiser Draw Party outside Daytona International Speedway's Turn 4 – and it's safe to say the fans in attendance were pretty happy with the results.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. correctly guessed the bottle that had the "POLE" flag inside it, giving him the top spot for Saturday night's race. Fans cheered loudly as Earnhardt Jr. held up the flag and received a half-hug from an excited host Kenny Wallace. ( Read Bud Shootout 2011 more... )

The criteria for Budweiser Shootout eligibility is as wacky as ever in 2011, with the days of the pole-winning drivers making up the field for Daytona International Speedway's exhibition race long gone.

If you wanted to get into the Bud Shootout field this year, here's what you had to do: 1) Made the Chase last year or 2) Ever won a Sprint Cup title or 3) Won the Bud Shootout before or 4) Won any points race at Daytona before or 5) Been the Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year in the past 10 years. 2011 Bud Shootout: Toyota NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Tidbits

LOOKING FOR THE BIG ONE: Camry driver Denny Hamlin is coming off a successful 2010 campaign where he finished second in the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) point standings. Hamlin won a series and career-best eight races last year, overcoming a torn ACL in his left knee which required early season surgery. The 30-year-old Chesterfield, Va.-native has proven he can win at short tracks and intermediate ovals, and is looking to add the first points-paying superspeedway victory to his resume at Daytona.

BRIAN’S BACK: Red Bull Racing Team driver Brian Vickers returns to the No. 83 Camry at Daytona following a seven-month absence after a medical condition sidelined the 27-year-old racer. Vickers experienced blood clots in his legs, lungs and finger last May. Extensive tests determined he had May-Thurner Syndrome, as well as a hole between the right and left atrium in his heart, which he had surgery to repair last July. Who Will Lead The Field To Green In “The Great American Race”?

Daytona 500 Pole Day will be held Sunday at Daytona International Speedway, and the stakes are big. When qualifying is done, the front row for the Daytona 500 will be locked in.
