CPAC: Newt Gingrich criticizes, challenges Obama

At CPAC, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich says President Obama should prove he's moving to the center by adopting GOP policies on energy, environment and the economy.

Newt Gingrich, speaking to a packed house Thursday at CPAC and sounding much like a Republican presidential candidate for 2012, challenged President Obama to adopt GOP policies on energy, environment and the economy to convince the American public that he's committed to a centrist approach.

Along those lines, Gingrich -- speaker of the House during the Clinton administration -- said Obama should follow the lead of President Clinton, who worked with congressional Republicans on welfare reform, spending cuts and balancing the budget. ( Read CPAC more... )

Trump Makes Appearance at CPAC

This is a good indicator that he’s serious about throwing his hair, er, I mean hat… into the presidential ring:

Rumored presidential candidate Donald Trump will make a surprise visit to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington today. He plans to address the convention in the afternoon. The decision to attend CPAC was pushed by Trump’s longtime political advisor Roger Stone, and indicates the billionaire real estate mogul is becoming serious about seeking the Republican nomination for president next year.

Trump has been hinting at his desire to run for months. “For the first time in my life, I am absolutely thinking about it,” he told MSNBC in October. According to Newsmax, Trump is “telling friends he has decided he will definitely run.” ( Read CPAC more... )

Trump Will Speak at CPAC

Donald Trump is telling friends and advisers that he is seriously considering jumping into the Republican presidential race in 2012. To make his point, he has accepted an invitation to appear with other potential candidates at a gathering of conservative activists in Washington.

Mr. Trump is a last-minute addition to the roster of speakers at the Conservative Action Political Conference, organizers said, and is scheduled to address the 10,000 attendees on Thursday afternoon. His appearance would mark the first campaign-style event that Mr. Trump has participated in as he explores whether to begin a political career by running for president. ( Read CPAC more... )
