Dave Duerson's death shocks former Bears teammates, coaches

Mike Singletary grappled to make sense of it, but it was a losing proposition.

"This really throws me; I just don't get it," he said. "I'm just really thrown off by this whole thing."

Ex-Bear Dave Duerson found dead

The last time the 1985 Bears gathered it was to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their Super Bowl triumph. This time, it will be to mourn a fallen teammate.

Former Bears’ safety Dave Duerson was found dead in his Sunny Isles Beach, Fla., home Thursday night. The cause of death remains unknown pending a medical examiner’s report, which a spokesperson for the Miami Dade County Police Department said could take a “few days or a couple weeks.” The spokesperson said police are still trying to determine if the Dave Duerson found is the former NFL player, although Duerson’s family, the Bears and Notre Dame, where Duerson played collegiately, all issued statements acknowledging his death. Dave Duerson: Remembering a Football Great

Dave Duerson, a key player on the 1985 Super Bowl champion team the Chicago Bears, was found dead Thursday night in his Miami home. Duerson was 50 years old. As of this time, Miami Dade County coroner has not stated a cause of death.

His former wife, Alicia Duerson, told NBC Chicago: “Our family asks that you please remember Dave as a good, kind and caring man. Dave Duerson Dead: Former Bears Star Dies At 50

CHICAGO (AP)--Dave Duerson, a four-time Pro Bowl safety who played on Super Bowl winners with the Chicago Bears and New York Giants, has died. He was 50.

The Bears released a statement Friday saying they were "stunned and saddened" by the news and called Duerson "a great contributor to our team and the Chicago community."

Former Bears safety Duerson passes away at age 50

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Former Bears safety Dave Duerson, a member of the famed 1985 Super Bowl championship team, was found dead Thursday night in his Miami home. He was 50.

Duerson played seven seasons for the Bears from 1983-89 after arriving as a third-round draft pick from Notre Dame. A key member of a dominant defense that’s considered one of the best in NFL history, he was selected to four straight Pro Bowls from 1985-88.

“Our family asks that you please remember Dave as a good, kind and caring man,” the Duerson family said in a statement. “He loved and cherished his family and friends and was extremely proud of his beloved Notre Dame and Chicago Bears. Chicago Bears safety Dave Duerson found dead in Miami

Dave Duerson, a superb defensive back who earned Super Bowl rings with the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants, died at his Miami home Thursday night. He was 51.

The first Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the death but did not specify a cause.

Bears, Notre Dame remember Dave Duerson

The sudden death of former Bears safety Dave Duerson has left many in the fooball world shocked and deeply saddened.

“It’s very sad, it really is,” Mike Ditka told John Mullin of CSNChicago.com. “It’s a sad time to see that. I know his life changed a little bit. I didn’t know anything that would be preying on his mind that way. He was a truly nice guy, he really was.”
