From my brief tour of the internet this afternoon, the reaction to Larry Drew's sudden departure pretty much breaks down into three groups. About 30% is confused, but just willing to let him go; another 20% is pretty irked at Drew, especially for the way this all went down. And the remaining 50%? They really dislike Larry Drew's parents. Tar Heels' Larry Drew II leaves program - College basketball

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Larry Drew II stunned North Carolina coach Roy Williams and his Tar Heels teammates with his abrupt departure from the program.

Larry Drew II Reportedly Leaves North Carolina, Will Transfer

North Carolina Tar Heels point guard Larry Drew II has stunned college basketball fan by reportedly leaving the basketball team with the intent to transfer. According to ESPN's Pat Forde, Drew left campus on Thursday.

Drew, a junior, has seen his playing time reduced from last season, having lost his starting job to freshman Kendall Marshall in December, and his overall production diminish along with it, but this is still an unexpected development for an upperclassmen at a program like UNC. Quick Thoughts On Larry Drew’s Departure

Last night, when the news broke that Billy Baron was transferring from UVa, it raised my eyebrows a bit. It’s weird to transfer in February. Normally you either do it at the semester break or, even if you’re not happy, you grit your teeth and trudge through the rest of the season. Leave now and you may well be throwing away 10 games or so of your career - games that you can’t get back.

Still, there was at least a plausible explanation with Baron. He had originally committed to play for his father, Jim, the head coach at Rhode Island. Baron instead wanted to see if he could make the jump to the ACC. But after a hot start, his playing diminished rapidly. ( Read Larry Drew more... )
