Barney Hajiro, Medal of Honor Recipient, Dies at 94

After Barney Hajiro, an Army private, single-handedly wiped out two German machine gun nests and killed two snipers in a gallant charge in World War II, his superiors recommended him for the Medal of Honor.

As part of a regiment composed entirely of Japanese-Americans below the officers’ ranks, Private Hajiro epitomized the unit’s brash motto, “Go for Broke!” His commanding officer’s report said that in October 1944 in eastern France, he had run 100 yards through a stream of bullets, walked through a booby-trapped area and led the charge up “Suicide Hill” screaming “Banzai!” before taking out the machine gun nests. What Can I do to Earn the Congressional Medal of honor in the Marine Corps ?

I head to boot camp in a few weeks. 03xx Infantry.

I know its not easy to earn this award. and many receive it Posthumous.

But in my heart I do believe that I have what it takes to earn this honor.

Is anything possible in this case? or am i just aiming for a lost cause that is not going to happen?

Just worry about doing your job to your best ability. If the opportunity presents itself everything will fall into place. everybody who ever won the Medal Of Honor never set out to do it, they only wanted to be a good solider, Marine, etc ( Read Medal of Honor Recipients more... )

Salvatore Giunta: Medal of Honor Recipient Honored at Super Bowl XLV

Salvatore Giunta Is the First Living Recipient of the Medal of Honor Since the Vietnam War.

Plenty of legends will be born in today's Super Bowl XLV matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers, and those who end up having their hands on the Lombardi Trophy when all is said and done will inevitably be labeled as "heroes" in certain parts of the country.

But the biggest hero on the field today at Cowboys Stadium was not wearing either team's colors, nor was he in pads. In fact, he was there for what he had done in service of certain other colors.

This would be U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta, who was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Obama back in November. He is the first living recipient of the award since the Vietnam War, and he was a guest of honor today at Super Bowl XLV. ( Read Medal of Honor Recipients more... )

Medal Of Honor Recipients: Meet Salvatore Giunta

Plenty of legends were born in today’s Super Bowl match up between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers. And after the Packers received the Lombardi Trophy, many will consider them ”heroes”.

Many of us watched the game and celebrated these great hereos…but the biggest hero on the field today at Cowboys Stadium was not wearing team colors or football padding. This hero was there for what he had done in service of other colors: the colors red, white and blue.

This hero is U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta, who was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Obama in November 2010.

Salvatore is the first living recipient of the award since the Vietnam War, and he was a guest of honor at Sunday’s Super Bowl. Six service members had reportedly been awarded the Medal of Honor since September 2001, all posthumously, before Giunta received the award.

Staff Sergeant Giunta received a very warm (and loud!) welcome, and fans of both Super Bowl teams were standing and clapping across the 100,000-seat stadium. It gave me chills to watch. ( Read Medal of Honor Recipients more... )
