Miguel Cabrera Arrested: Tigers Slugger Charged With DUI

LAKELAND, Fla. — Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera was arrested late Wednesday on suspicion of drunken driving in Florida, police said, the latest episode for the first baseman who has struggled with drinking-related problems.

Cabrera, 27, was spotted by a deputy in a car with a smoking engine alongside a road in Fort Pierce. Inside the vehicle, Cabrera smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and took a swig from a bottle of scotch in front of a deputy, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office. A little more than a year ago, I heard Miguel Cabrera talk about how he had changed his life. I wanted to believe him.

He said he hadn't touched a drink in months — since the October 2009 binge that led to a 6 a.m. altercation during which he hit his wife. Miguel Cabrera (MUG SHOT): Tigers Slugger Arrested for DUI

(CBS/AP) Miguel Cabrera was arrested in Florida on suspicion of drunk driving, and police have released a mug shot featuring a smiling Cabrera.

According to the police, a St. Lucie County sheriff's deputy arrested the 27-year-old Wednesday night shortly after 11:00 p.m. Cabrera's car was on the side of the road with smoke coming from the engine of his vehicle.

Police said the Tigers slugger smelled of alcohol, was slurring his speech and took a swig from a bottle of Scotch in front of a deputy. According to the report, Cabrera's attitude was cocky, combative, argumentative and belligerent. His eyes were said to be bloodshot, watery and glassy and his face was flushed. Tigers' Miguel Cabrera Charged With Driving Under the Influence in Florida

Detroit Tigers All-Star first baseman Miguel Cabrera was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after police watched him drink from a bottle of Scotch as he sat in his car alongside a Florida road.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera charged with DUI in Florida

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera was arrested in Florida on Wednesday night, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and two counts of resisting an officer without violence.

Miguel Cabrera arrest spoils an untroubled spring training for Tigers

LAKELAND, Fla. -- In what will remain the last cloudless juncture of Detroit Tigers spring training, at least for now, manager Jim Leyland talked in a relaxed way about baseball -- and hockey and football -- at his morning media briefing today.
