Visit Myrtle Beach Named Sponsor of Second Annual VisitMyrtleBeach.com NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway

CONCORD, N.C. -- Standing in front of a 40-ton sand sculpture of an NHRA Top Fuel dragster, zMAX Dragway officials announced VisitMyrtleBeach.com as the new title sponsor of the second annual VisitMyrtleBeach.com NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, April 14-17 at zMAX Dragway.

Myrtle Beach, S.C., popularly known as The Grand Strand, has been one of the South's most popular tourism destinations for years and VisitMyrtleBeach.com will now attach its name to the most unique event in drag racing at the sport's premier facility. The Four-Wide Nationals is the only event on the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series calendar where competitors break from the traditional form of two-wide drag racing to race four wide with a 32,000 horsepower assault on the Bellagio of drag strips. Rain washes out qualifying at NHRA Winternationals

POMONA, Calif. (AP) — Persistent rain showers forced NHRA officials to cancel qualifying runs Friday at the NHRA Winternationals.

Qualifying will resume Saturday, weather permitting, with two sessions for the season-opening races. Eliminations begin Sunday.

The qualifying leaders after Thursday's first session were Antron Brown in Top Fuel, Johnny Gray in Funny Car and Erica Enders in Pro Stock. ( Read NHRA more... )

Three months after getting hit “square in the chin” by NHRA Funny Car icon John Force, Matt Hagan will begin the 2011 season with renewed accountability – and an unexpected endorsement.

NHRA’s 60th anniversary season will roll into the staging lanes at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif., this afternoon for the first round of professional qualifying of the 51st annual Kragen O’Reilly Auto Parts Winternationals. It’s the same track where Hagan’s bid for the 2010 championship ended with a thud during the season-ending Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals. ( Read NHRA more... )
