CBS Reporter Lara Logan Assault: Nir Rosen Resigns

After posting inappropriate tweets regarding the sexual assault of CBS reporter Lara Logan in Egypt, Nir Rosen, a fellow at NYU’s Center on Law and Security has resigned from his position at the University.

Logan was brutally attacked in Tahrir Square while covering the celebrations of President Hosni Mubarak stepping down and handing over power to the military. She was reporting for 60 Minutes at the time, when she and her crew were surrounded by a group of men who grabbed Logan away from her crew and beat and sexually assaulted her.

Logan was eventually rescued by a group of women and Egyptian soldiers. ( Read Nir Rosen more... )

Why didn’t NYU fire Nir Rosen over Lara Logan?

New York University’s Center on Law and Security allowed one of its fellows, Nir Rosen, to resign after he tweeted vile things about veteran CBS war correspondent Lara Logan, who sustained a brutal sexual assault and beating in Cairo during pro-democracy celebrations.

Why did the center’s executive director, Karen J. Greenberg, allow him to resign rather than to use the opportunity to take a tougher stand? Here's what she told me today:

“Nir has always been a really good supporter of the center and I think he realized he had overstepped his bounds.” ( Read Nir Rosen more... )

BREAKING: Nir Rosen Resigns Over Comments on Lara Logan Sexual Assault in Egypt

Yesterday, Eyeblast wrote a post on Nir Rosen, a fellow at NYU’s Center for Law and Security, and his outlandish comments he made of the sexual assault of CBS correspondent Lara Logan- which was posted on here. Jim Geraghty from National Review and Steve Nelson at the Daily Caller did the same.

Rosen’s comments were most likely directed at Lara Logan in retaliation to her defending General Stanley McChrystal last year after a controversial Rolling Stone interview. After looking into what he has done in the past and given his past statements, it is actually not surprising that he would make such horrendous comments. He has appeared on many TV shows essentially defending Al Qaeda against the United States. ( Read Nir Rosen more... )

Nir Rosen trashes Lara Logan, dismisses her sexual assault

Left-wing journalist Nir Rosen joked today about the sexual assault of CBS News’ chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan. Logan was assaulted on Friday during celebrations in Cairo that followed Hosni Mubarak’s resignation.

The initial tweet by Rosen stated, “Lara Logan had to outdo Anderson. Where was her buddy McCrystal.” From this tweet he went further, writing that he would have been amused if Anderson Cooper had also been sexually assaulted. ( Read Nir Rosen more... )

Nir Rosen, U.S. journalist slams CBS' Lara Logan on Twitter after sexual assault in Egypt, resigns

While the world reels in shock over CBS reporter Lara Logan's sexual assault in Egypt, another American journalist is causing a different kind of outrage, calling Logan a "warmonger" who was simply trying to outdo Anderson Cooper.

Nir Rosen, an NYU fellow who has extensively covered the Iraq War, made the insensitive remarks during a Twitter rant on Tuesday. He has since resigned from the university's Center on Law and Security. ( Read Nir Rosen more... )

The Pro-Taliban, America-Bashing Tweets of Nir Rosen

On September 11th of last year, Nir Rosen, who yesterday found great humor in the rape of Lara Logan, tweeted that it was "hard to disagree with much of the Islamic Emirate Of Afghanistan Statement Regarding The Anniversary Of The 9/11 Event." He attached a link to this statement from the Taliban. You can read the statement for yourselves, but it is typical Taliban dreck. It's somewhat amazing, in retrospect, that NYU's Center for Law and Security, which took away Rosen's fellowship this morning, didn't separate itself from Rosen then. Or that his repeated calls for the destruction of Israel merited no condemnation from NYU. ( Read Nir Rosen more... )

TheDC Morning: Nir Rosen and Debbie Schlussel do ‘The Creep’

1.) Where’s Rep. Joe Wilson when you need him? — Pres. Obama lied to America’s fat, unemployed face on Tuesday during his budget back-and-forth with Washington’s poor excuse for a press corps. “We will not be adding more to the national debt. It’s — so, to use a — sort of, an analogy that families are familiar with, we’re not going to be running up the credit card anymore,” Obama said, just two days after Office of Management and Budget Pastor Jack Lew told Candy Crowley, “Our budget will get us, over the next several years, to the point where we can look the American people in the eye and say we’re not adding to the debt anymore.” ( Read Nir Rosen more... )

Nir Rosen Quits after Remarks about CBS Reporter Lara Logan

NEW YORK (LALATE) – Nir Rosen has resigned after remarks about CBS reporter Lara Logan Tuesday. Nir Rosen resigned after he posted a series of remarks via Twitter Tuesday; the remarks referenced Logan’s assault in Egypt. After Rosen made the tweets, several news sites exposed the remarks through screenshots late Tuesday. The remarks included “Look, she was probably groped like thousands of other women, which is still wrong, but if it was worse than [sic] I’m sorry.”

While Rosen has resigned, there are far more questions remaining. Valerie Strauss of the Washington Post today asks why didn’t Karen J. Greenberg, executive director of NYU’s Center on Law and Security, fire Rosen. “That’s how these things are done” was Greenberg’s response; Greenberg explained the resignation was decided by the Center and Rosen. Greenberg said in a news statement that the Center offers its “thoughts … [to Logan] during this difficult time.” ( Read Nir Rosen more... )
