Toomer's Corner Poisoned, Arrest Made In Connection To Auburn Tree Poisoning

AUBURN, Ala. — A 62-year-old Dadeville man has been arrested in connection with the poisoning of the historic Toomer's Corner oak trees at Auburn University.

A spokeswoman for the Lee County Sheriff Office says Harvey Almorn Updyke Jr. was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with one count of first-degree criminal mischief.

Bond was set at $50,000. If convicted, Updyke could face one to 10 years in prison. ( Read Toomers Corner Trees more... )

Harvey Almorn Updyke Jr. was arrested Thursday morning and charged with one count of criminal mischief in connection with poisoning two trees at Toomer's Corner, the traditional gathering area for celebrations at Auburn University.

AUBURN, AL (WBRC) - A man has been arrested in connection with the poisoning of trees at Toomer's Corner in Auburn.

Auburn police said Harvey Almorn Updyke, 62, of Dadeville, was arrested at 1:26 a.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with criminal mischief. Investigators said his arrest stems from an investigation involving the application of herbicide to the oak trees located at Toomer's Corner in the downtown area. An arrest has been made in connection with the poisoning of oak trees at Toomer's Corner on the campus of Auburn Thursday.

According to WTVM-TV in Columbus, Ga., Harvey Almon Updyke, 62, of Dadeville, Ala., has been charged with criminal mischief in connection with the poisoning.
