College basketball: J.P. Tokoto to attend North Carolina

WAUWATOSA - In the end, J.P. Tokoto couldn't pass up the opportunity to play for one of the marquee programs in men's college basketball.

Tokoto, a highly recruited junior forward from Menomonee Falls, announced Thursday night during a press conference at Dave and Buster's that he's heading to North Carolina after his prep career is over. Tokoto can make his decision official by signing a letter of intent in the fall.

One of the most hotly recruited players in the history of Wisconsin prep basketball, Tokoto chose coach Roy Williams and the Tar Heels over a host of successful programs that included two schools in his backyard, the University of Wisconsin and Marquette. ( Read JP Tokoto more... )

J.P. Tokoto has made his decision: UNC will be his destination to play his college basketball, declining offers from Connecticut, Marquette, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, UCLA and Wisconsin.

Tokoto, one of the most hotly recruited players in the history of Wisconsin prep basketball, nodded to the Taar Heels and coach Roy Williams during a news conference at Dave and Buster’s on Thursday night.

J.P. Tokoto Has Decided

J.P. Tokoto has decided his college destination….

But he won’t announce it until Thursday night at 10 p.m. CST in an exclusive interview with the local Milwaukee Fox affiliate, WITI-TV, at Dave & Buster’s in Wauwatosa, Wisc.

JP Tokoto to Decide This Week

The last few years have been magical at the Menomonee Falls High School gym. Roy Williams of North Carolina and Bill Self of Kansas have been there. Kentucky's John Calipari has come to hang out. Michigan State's Tom Izzo spent a chilly Friday in our neck of the woods.

Marquette's Buzz Williams has been in the house. Scouts from Georgetown and UCLA have also walked through the gym doors. Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan has been there more often than most Menomonee Falls residents. They all come to see one thing: Junior Forward JP Tokoto.( Read JP Tokoto more... )

According to Ritchie Davis, Jean-Pierre Tokoto (2012, 6'6", WG, Menomonee Falls HS) has narrowed his list of potential institutions to pursue his academic and athletic endeavors at the collegiate level to eight schools.

Top recruit Tokoto says he's picked North Carolina

MILWAUKEE—Top Wisconsin high school recruit J.P. Tokoto said Thursday that he has committed to playing college basketball at North Carolina.

The Menomonee Falls High School star forward made the announcement at a Milwaukee restaurant in a room filled with family, friends, teammates, coaches and reporters.

Thursday night J.P. Tokoto made his decision in front of two-hundred-plus people.

As many expected, he has chosen the University of North Carolina and Roy Williams.

Tokoto recently took a visit to Chapel Hill and it has been evident that he liked what the Tar Heels had to offer for sometime.
