Wet Hot American Summer Movie

Wet Hot American Summer is a 2001 American satirical romantic comedy film directed by David Wain from a screenplay written by Wain and Michael Showalter. The film features an ensemble cast, including Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Molly Shannon, Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni, Michael Showalter (and various other members of MTV's sketch comedy group The State), Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Zak Orth, and A.D. Miles. The film takes place during the last full day at a fictional summer camp in 1981, and spoofs the sex comedies aimed at teen audiences of that era.

The film was a critical and commercial failure, but has since developed a cult following, as many of its cast members have gone on to high-profile work. Netflix will produce an eight-episode prequel series in 2015, starring many of the original cast members, including Cooper, Garofalo, Rudd, Poehler, Banks and Hyde Pierce, among others.

Plot

In 1981, Camp Firewood, a summer camp located near Waterville, Maine, is preparing for its last day of camp. Counselors have one last chance to have a romantic encounter with another person at Camp Firewood. The summer culminates in a talent show.

Beth (Janeane Garofalo), the camp director, struggles to keep her counselors in order—and her campers alive—while falling in love with Henry (David Hyde Pierce), an astrophysics associate professor at Thomas College. Henry has to devise a plan to save the camp from a piece of NASA's Skylab, which is falling to Earth.

Coop (Michael Showalter) has a crush on Katie (Marguerite Moreau), his fellow counselor, but has to pry her away from her rebellious, obnoxious, and obviously unfaithful boyfriend, Andy (Paul Rudd). Only Gene (Christopher Meloni), the shell-shocked Vietnam war veteran and camp chef, can help Coop win Katie—with some help from a talking can of vegetables (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin).

All the while, Gary (A.D. Miles), Gene's unfortunately chosen apprentice, and J.J. (Zak Orth) attempt to figure out why McKinley (Michael Ian Black) hasn't been with a woman, the reason being that McKinley is in love with Ben, whom he marries in a ceremony by the lake; Victor (Ken Marino) attempts to sleep with the resident loose-girl Abby (Marisa Ryan); and Susie (Amy Poehler) and Ben (Bradley Cooper) attempt to produce and choreograph the greatest talent show Camp Firewood has ever seen.

Release

Wet Hot American Summer premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival, where it was screened four times to sold-out crowds, though it failed to attract a distributor. Months later, USA Films offered the filmmakers $100,000 for the film, with virtually no participation for the filmmakers, an offer the film's investors accepted. It premiered in New York City on July 27, 2001, then received a theatrical release limited to fewer than 30 cities.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015)

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is a 2015 American action spy film written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie. It is the fifth installment in the Mission: Impossible series and was preceded by Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011). It stars Tom Cruise, who reprises his role as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt. It is produced by Cruise, J. J. Abrams, and David Ellison of Skydance Productions.

Filming began on August 21, 2014, in Vienna, Austria, and concluded on March 12, 2015. The film is scheduled to be released in North America by Paramount Pictures on July 31, 2015.

Plot

After intercepting nerve gas being sold to terrorists, Impossible Missions Force agent Ethan Hunt is convinced he can prove the existence of the Syndicate, an international criminal consortium. Reporting to an IMF substation to receive his next orders, Hunt is captured by the Syndicate, but escapes a torture chamber with the help of disavowed British agent Ilsa Faust, a Syndicate operative who offers no explanation for her actions. With their existence confirmed, Hunt follows his only lead: a blond man in glasses, later identified as Solomon Lane.

CIA director Alan Hunley and IMF agent William Brandt appear before a Senate oversight committee to justify the IMF's continued existence in the face of their recklessness. Hunley demands it be disbanded and absorbed into the CIA. With Brandt unable to reveal operational details without permission from the cabinet Secretary overseeing the IMF, the committee sides with Hunley, whose calls for Hunt's capture.

Six months later, Hunt leads a CIA team to an empty safehouse as a means of passing information on the Syndicate to his friend, intelligence analyst Benji Dunn. Suspicious of Hunley's actions and believing he will kill Hunt at the first opportunity, Brandt recruits former agent Luther Stickell to find Hunt, using a likeness of Ilsa from the safehouse. Hunt arranges for Dunn to attend the opera Turandot in Vienna, recruiting him for a covert mission to locate Lane. Realizing the Syndicate plans to assassinate the Chancellor of Austria there, Hunt intervenes by wounding him first to have him taken away. Escaping with Ilsa, one of the intended shooters, he sees the Chancellor nonetheless killed by a car bomb.

Ilsa, Hunt and Dunn locate a file hidden by a Syndicate traitor on a high-security server used to regulate a Moroccan power station. Believing it to be a ledger containing the names of all Syndicate agents, the trio secure it before Ilsa betrays Hunt and Dunn. She returns to London, and passes the file to her handler, Attlee. Attlee compels Ilsa to return to the Syndicate and prove her loyalty to its leader, Lane. Regrouping with Brandt and Stickell, Hunt and Dunn follow Ilsa to London. When Lane's men abduct Dunn and Ilsa, Hunt realizes that Lane will always have a plan to acquire the files, and the only sure way to stop him is to force a confrontation. He agrees to Lane's ultimatum to abduct the British Prime Minister and use his voice print to unlock the file.

Brandt contacts Hunley and reveals their location. At a charity auction, the two to try and prevent Hunt from attacking the Prime Minister, whom they and Attlee take to a secure room. Hunt, having posed as Attlee, reveals himself and has the Prime Minister confirm the existence of the Syndicate: a classified project that sought to recruit disavowed foreign operatives to carry out clandestine missions, an initiative the Prime Minister rejected as too extreme. When the real Attlee arrives, Hunt subdues him, and he admits Lane hijacked the project and went rogue, and that Atlee has been covering up its existence ever since.

Stickell discovers the file is not a ledger of agents, but contains the location and access codes for billions of dollars in untraceable funds that Lane has been desperate to get to expand the Syndicate's operations. Hunt memorizes the data and destroys the file to force Lane to release Dunn and Ilsa in exchange for what he knows. He lures Lane into the open and into a trap. Imprisoned in a bulletproof cell, he is gassed and taken into custody.

Some time later, Hunley and Brandt return to the oversight committee to reinstate the IMF. Hunley says their original meeting gave him a pretext to let Hunt's team infiltrate the CIA and take down the Syndicate without arousing suspicion. The committee is skeptical, but agrees to reinstate the IMF. Outside, Brandt addresses Hunley as "Mr. Secretary", revealing the ruse.

Production

Pre-production

Paramount Pictures announced in August 2013 that Christopher McQuarrie would direct the fifth Mission: Impossible film, from a script by Drew Pearce, with Tom Cruise reprising his role as Ethan Hunt. Tom Cruise Productions and Bad Robot would produce, and "Skydance Productions, who served as co-financers and executive producers of the last installment, will work closely with the team in the development and production process." On November 14, 2013, Paramount announced a release date of December 25, 2015. The same month, Simon Pegg confirmed he would reprise his role as Benji. In May 2014, Will Staples replaced Pearce as screenwriter. Also that month, Jeremy Renner confirmed he was returning in the role of William Brandt, and Cruise said the film would shoot in London, with a later report saying it would first shoot in Vienna in August. At some point, McQuarrie replaced Staples as screenwriter; the final credits list McQuarrie as screenwriter, with story by Pearce.

In July 2014, Rebecca Ferguson was cast and Alec Baldwin was in talks for the fifth film. Baldwin was confirmed to have joined the cast in August 2014, and Ving Rhames was confirmed to be reprising his role of Luther Stickell. On September 5, it was announced that Sean Harris was in negotiations for the villain role. On October 2, Simon McBurney joined the cast of the film. On October 6, Chinese actress Zhang Jingchu joined the film's cast for a major role. On March 22, 2015, Paramount revealed the film's official title Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, along with a teaser poster and trailer.Filming

Principal photography began in August 2014. On August 21, the production released its first photos from the set in Vienna, Austria. On August 22, actors Cruise and Pegg along with director Christopher McQuarrie were spotted at Vienna's Metro. Later on in the day, Cruise and Ferguson were also spotted during the filming of some stunt (jumping) scenes from the roof-top of Vienna State Opera. On August 26, actors were again spotted filming scenes in Vienna. After finishing the one and a half week filming in Austria, on August 30, actor Cruise arrived in Rabat, Morocco for the filming of remaining scenes. Here the Marrakesh Highway was closed for 14 days (August 30-September 12). Other filming locations in Morocco include Agadir and Rabat. On September 2, Cruise was spotted racing a 2015 BMW M3 Sedan in Derb sultane, Casablanca. On September 8 and 9, filming took place in The Marrakesh Stadium, which was closed both days for filming purposes. On September 26, Cruise was filming scenes doing his own stunts in a BMW car in Kasbah of the Udayas in capital city Rabat.

After more than a month of shooting in Austria and Morocco, filming moved to London on September 28. On October 7, a trailer was seen carrying damaged BMW M3s from the set after filming in Morocco. On October 10, Cruise and his stuntman Wade Eastwood were spotted during filming some scenes in Monaco, lead actress Ferguson also spotted. Filming of an action scene featuring Ethan Hunt climbing and fighting on the outside of a flying Airbus A400M Atlas took place at RAF Wittering in the United Kingdom. Tom Cruise performed the sequence, at times suspended on the aircraft 5000 feet in the air, without the use of a stunt double. On November 9, filming began on Southampton Water, while the crews were spotted arriving at Fawley Power Station before filming started. On December 2, 2014, Cruise was almost hit by a double-decker bus while filming a scene in London. However, the bus missed him and he suffered no injuries Tom Cruise trained under diving specialist Kirk Krack to be able to hold his breath for six minutes to perform an underwater sequence which was filmed in a single long take without any edits.

On February 20, 2015, The Hollywood Reporter said filming was halted to give McQuarrie, Cruise, and an unknown third person time to rework the movie's ending. Filming ended on March 12, 2015.

Soundtrack

The musical score for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation was composed by Joe Kraemer, who previously collaborated with director McQuarrie on The Way of the Gun and Jack Reacher. Kraemer was announced as the composer for the film in September 2014. The physical soundtrack will be available from La-La Land Records on July 28, 2015, with the digital album released from Paramount Music! on the same day.

As well as incorporating Lalo Schifrin's thematic material from the television series throughout the score, three tracks ("Escape to Danger," "A Matter of Going" and "Finale and Curtain Call") interpolate Nessun Dorma.

The Academy Awards
The Academy Awards look toward next year

by Jake Davis

The 83rd annual Academy Awards occurred last week and there weren't many surprises.

"The King's Speech," behind a late push from the British theater and the Producer's Guild Association, took the spoils in Best Picture. More impressing than that, however, Tom Hooper's film is the first film to be awarded four of the Big Five (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Screenplay) since "American Beauty" in 2001.

"The Social Network" brought in a disappointing haul. The early favorite only received awards for three of its eight nominations. Director David Fincher must still await his long desired directing Oscar.

Natalie Portman and Wally Pfister were amongst the first time Oscar winners for their respective work in "Black Swan" and "Inception."

"Inceptions" unmatched imaginative prowess swept the sound editing and visual effects awards. While palpable performances by Christian Bale and Melissa Leo aided "The Fighter" in knocking out the supporting role categories.

The awards were not much for surprises; however, outside of a creative opening piece, the hosts were entirely shocking.

Anne Hathaway was so surprised and thrilled that she was asked to host the Oscars that she forgot how to act. Or maybe she never really knew how. You can't really blame the poor girl though. Despite an overly raunchy and overtly steamy appearance in "Love and Other Drugs," it seems she will always be the awkward, excessively giddy "tween" from "The Princess Diaries."

James Franco on the other hand was too "exhausted" to remember why he was asked to be a host. His lackluster approach stuck out like a sore thumb next to the overeager babbling of his counterpart.

The 83rd Oscars were down nine percent in ratings from 2009 and failed to appeal to a younger audience as the Academy had hoped. But this is not due to a less spectacular list of award winning movies.

"The Social Network" will be a film that defines a generation and speaks volumes about society. Inception pushed the boundaries of reality and moved blockbusters to a new level. The Coen brothers remade John Wayne's "True Grit" with absolute class regardless of a need for Cogburn subtitles. Danny Boyle's repackaging of the amazing story of Aron Ralston shook audiences and retold a painful story of redemption with gut-wrenching tangibility.

Facebook experiments with streaming movies

(NBC) - More than a half-billion people use Facebook to keep up with friends and family.

Now, Warner Bros. Pictures wants to find out if those same Facebook users might use the social website to watch Movies.

The company is now offering the film "The Dark Knight" for rental online to Facebook users.

It costs 30 Facebook credits, the equivalent of $3, with Facebook getting one-third of the take.

"If people show interest in watching 'The Dark Knight,' then potentially movie studios will want to offer other movies, either temporarily or permanently on Facebook, and Facebook would love this kind of profit," said CNET.com's Caroline McCarthy.

It's an experiment with lots of potential in the still-emerging world of online video.

With more than 20 million subscribers, Netflix has been the front runner in video streaming rentals. Recently, Amazon has challenged with a similar offering.

If Warner's test with "The Dark Knight" proves successful, it could make Facebook a game changer for online movie distribution.

"It certainly could become a threat as the video business evolves, and you have these 500 million users and the wisdom of friends," said The Hollywood Reporter's Marisa Guthrie.

Facebook users who rent "The Dark Knight" have 48 hours to view it as many times as they want.

Warner Bros. is already saying they plan to roll out other titles both for rent and purchase on Facebook in the months ahead.

Cool Hand Luke
Cool Hand Luke Movie on TCM

Movie synopsis:
Luke Jackson is arrested for unscrewing the tops from a row of parking meters while on a drunken spree in a small Southern town. After the trial, he is sentenced to 2 years of labor on a chain gang.

A loner who maintains his aloofness even while working in the blazing sun, Luke soon antagonizes another prisoner, Dragline, the acknowledged leader of the chain gang. The tension between the two men mounts until they finally have a fight in which Dragline beats Luke but is unable to make him give up. Luke’s skill at poker, plus his refusal to break under pressure from the sadistic guards, win him the respect of Dragline and the admiration of the other inmates.

A short time after Luke receives a farewell visit from his dying mother, a telegram arrives informing him that she is dead. Unable to bear his confinement, Luke saws a hole in the floor under his bunk and escapes; but he is captured, brutally beaten, and put in ankle chains. Undaunted, he breaks out again but is recaptured. Every effort is made to break his will, and he is bludgeoned and overworked until he begs the guards for mercy.

Upon seeing Luke betray the myth of the indomitable hero, the other men treat him with contempt. Then, without warning, he escapes in a dump truck, followed by Dragline. Taking refuge in a church, Luke sends Dragline away and attempts to settle his score with God. Partly out of love for Luke, partly out of fear for his own safety, Dragline returns with the guards. Rather than surrender, Luke stands before a window and shouts his defiance until he is silenced by a bullet. The hysterical Dragline is beaten into submission and then returns to the chain gang where he perpetuates the legend of Cool Hand Luke.

‘Blade Runner’ Sequel Could Happen, Producers Want Ridley Scott

Alcon Entertainment has announced that they are in final negotiations to acquire the rights to the world of Blade Runner and elements from the short story that inspired the film, Phillip K. I can hear groans in the back of the room already, but one thing that Alcon producers would not be allowed to do is the dreaded straight remake, and as a matter of fact company co-founder Broderick Johnson says, “we never would want to remake it”.

I’m not sure if he can be trusted though, if I were ever to write a screenplay for some sort of college comedy I would probably name the jerk head of the jock fraternity Broderick Johnson. He may be setting us all up for one big cinematic wedgie. ( Read Blade Runner Sequel more... )

The Walking Dead Season 2
Breaking! First Hints of 'Walking Dead' Season 2!

The Walking Dead crew - like many of their ilk - are tight-lipped about any upcoming secrets. But at tonight's panel at Paleyfest in Los Angeles, more than a little was inferred about season two. Read on after the jump...

Will Michael Rooker's character, Merle, be back? Exec producer Frank Darabont promises that they are "investigating possibilities," while show producer and comic creator Robert Kirkman followed up with, "lots of possibilities." The one thing Darabont promised is that Merle will not return as governor. But it seems pretty safe to assume Merle will return. ( Read The Walking Dead Season 2 more... )

Walking Dead Season 2 to Feature a Lava Planet? *lowers head in shame*

Frank Darabont’s Walking Dead TV series on AMC was no doubt a critical and public success. Much like the comic from which it’s based it’s a rich, smart, character driven story about what happens when a group of people are forced to survive in a world ruled by the dead. It’s filled with great moments of suspense, psychological terror and gut wrenching loss. However, much to the chagrin of fans, the show differed from the comic, quite a bit actually. New characters and new situations were added (Red necks, gang that takes care of elderly at nursing home, Finale at the Center of Disease Control.. etc).

The goal being to give people a who have read the comic a reason to watch. Apparently, the creatives behind the show thought that if fans knew what was coming then they would have no interest in watching. Personally, that pissed me off. While I did enjoy these added bits, it wasn’t what I knew. I wanted to see everything transpire on screen that I read in hand. It’s like going to your favorite restaurant to order your favorite meal and the chef changes the recipe. It’s not what you wanted. ( Read The Walking Dead Season 2 more... )

Journey To The Center Of The Earth 2 Traveling Without Brendan Fraser

New Line Cinema has been pushing for a sequel to their surprisingly fun (and surprisingly lucrative) Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D for awhile now. Unfortunately their star hasn’t been interested. It was back in April that we first heard Brendan Fraser might bail on Journey 2 if they went forward with it, and now it’s happened.

Deadline says Journey to the Center of the Earth 2 is happening with Brad Peyton in the director’s chair and Brendan Fraser anywhere but on the set. Fraser won’t be involved at all, sort of baffling when you consider his recent career path. It’s not like he has standards or anything and Journey was pretty much the only halfway decent thing he’s done in more than half a decade. It seems Fraser was loyal to the film’s previous director Eric Brevig, and Brevig was too busy with Yogi Bear to do the sequel. ( Read Journey to The Center of the Earth more... )

Water For Elephants Trailer, Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz, James Frain, Hal Holbrook, Water For Elephants Trailer MovieAnother Epic New Trailer for Fox's 'Water for Elephants' Adaptation

"Love is worth the risk." With a few weeks before opening, Amazon has debuted another full-length trailer for Francis Lawrence's adaptation of Water for Elephants, the circus drama starring Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz, James Frain, Hal Holbrook (who isn't in this trailer).

We've seen at least two fantastic trailers before, but this one seems a bit more straightforward with the story from the book and spends a little more time focused on Pattinson and his character. I really can't wait to see this, the way it builds is so epic. This trailer is a little spoilery in showing a lot of the film, but still looks great. ( Read Water For Elephants Trailer more... )

Another trailer for "Water for Elephants" has been made available. Courtesy of Amazon, this brand new promo video offers a sneak peek at the back story of Robert Pattinson's Jacob Jankowski as it opens with scenes wherein the veterinary student learns about the tragic fate of his parents.

This fresh trailer reels in a much darker tone if compared to ones released earlier. Its focus is to give out more of the tension and conflict that come about when the main characters find themselves getting entangled in a love triangle. Though so, it still manages to slip in some romantic moments between Jacob and Marlena. ( Read Water For Elephants Trailer more... )

New Water For Elephants Trailer Online

As we approach the May opening of Water For Elephants, 20th Century Fox is naturally trying to keep the film in cinemagoers’ minds. And given that Francis Lawrence’s new film is based on Sara Gruen’s book, it seems somehow appropriate that the latest trailer is featured at Amazon.

Robert Pattinson plays Jacob Jankowski, a young man whose world is shattered when his parents are killed in a car accident. But while he abandons his veterinary studies, he doesn’t move into the world of road safety, oh no. Instead, he does exactly what you’d expect and runs off to join a second-rate circus. Luke Matheny Should Have 'Got a Haircut' Before Winning Oscar

Gangly young filmmaker Luke Matheny delighted the Oscar night audience on Sunday as he accepted the award for Best Live Action Short Film. Matheny looked as shocked as anyone as he took the stage, voicing what everyone else was thinking.

"I should've got a haircut," he joked.

The Oscar audience laughed along with Matheny who went on to win them over with a heartfelt speech where he went on to thank his mother, who provided craft services for the cast and crew. He also thanked "the love of my life," who scored the film. ( Read Luke Matheny more... )

Oscar nominee Luke Matheny

Luke Matheny is the writer/director/star of “God of Love,” a quirky 18-minute short film about a jazz crooner who performs amazing dart tricks on stage. It appeared in both the Indianapolis International Film Festival and the Heartland Film Festival in 2010, and is up for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.

This film was your student thesis in the graduate film program at NYU. Talk about what the storied school did for your development as a filmmaker.

There were lots of great things about the NYU grad film program: the faculty, the facilities, the reputation. But in the end, the most valuable aspect of film school were my classmates, who became close friends and irreplaceable collaborators. ( Read Luke Matheny more... )

"My percentages aren't great," admitted Randy Newman on the Academy Award stage.

They've improved.

Before tonight, he'd been nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song nineteen times, and only won once. Now, he's two for twenty. "We Belong Together," the spunky piano-rock number from Pixar's "Toy Story 3" earned him the golden statuette. While the Nine Inch Nails frontman and his British composing partner each expressed disbelief over their winning best original score Oscar for their synthy, non-orchestral soundtrack to The Social Network, Reznor revealed a surprising anecdote about his road to Oscar glory.

“[Inception] composer, Hans Zimmer, who I’ve been battling at awards shows all year, told me, ‘In a lot of ways, I hope you win because it’s helped open up the field a bit for texture of what film scores can be,’ ” Reznor told reporters backstage. “I am truly stunned by this. Vidal Sassoon
Movie Review: "Vidal Sassoon The Movie"

What was initially an idea to shoot a short film as a tribute to his friend Vidal Sassoon, producer Michael Gordon instead ended up producing a 94- minute film of the legendary man.

Titled Vidal Sassoon The Movie, the film's springboard is a visual book of Sassoon's life that Gordon is putting together for the cameras. As he goes through the various photographs to organize them, they prompt Sassoon's story to unfold. ( Read Vidal Sassoon more... )

If you’re like me, you’re wondering how the hell hair can be interesting enough to make a movie out of it… well it helps when you have a true to life rags to riches story of one of the first stylists who actually managed to change society with a pair of scissors. Vidal Sassoon discusses his iconic pixie haircut

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Before Vidal Sassoon came along during the swinging '60s, women's hair was caught in a "Mad Men" world.

"Women were going to the salon three or four times a week. They had big hair. They were sleeping in rollers," says Craig Teper, director of the new biodoc "Vidal Sassoon: The Movie," which opens February 11 in New York and February 18 in Los Angeles.

The London-born hairdresser upended all of that. As the movie stylishly demonstrates, Sassoon can rightly be called a design revolutionary. The short, geometric hairstyles he invented were so low-maintenance as to be genuinely liberating. ( Read Vidal Sassoon more... )

meet the man who changed the world with a pair of scissors

Before the dawn of Sally Hershberger's $800 haircut, before the term "celebrity stylist" preceded names like Frédéric Fekkai, Serge Normant, and Orlando Pita, there was Vidal Sassoon. The English haircutter made his mark with a never-before-seen architectural style at a time when the only options were a tease and a set.

"He's undisputedly the hero of hairdressing—and has a remarkable life story," says Bumble and Bumble founder Michael Gordon, who produced the new documentary, Vidal Sassoon The Movie, that's debuting during New York fashion week. ( Read Vidal Sassoon more... )

2011 Oscars - My 2 Cents - BEST PICTURE

Didn’t write-up Best Actor (Colin Firth will win even though Jesse Eisenberg deserves it) or Best Actress (Annette Bening will upset Natalie Portman and maybe upset Portman so much that she’ll give birth onstage Alien-style and that baby will wrench the Oscar back for its mama) because of the Norcal Storm, the accompanying 4 feet of snow and lack of electricity that went with it.

Would have watched Winter’s Bone again to learn how to survive in the freezing wilderness but, as previously established, there was no friggin’ power. The Social Network, David Fincher's riveting meditation on the messiness behind the creation of Facebook, was every critic's choice for movie of the year. Its sparkling script, by Aaron Sorkin, and Fincher's restrained but typically adamantine direction created an indelible portrait of a modern antihero. ( Read Oscars 2011 Time more... )

Oscar 2011: Reality Bites

The true story of how a king beat a speech impediment with therapy. The true story of a how one young man built a cyber empire worth billions. The true story of how a hiker survived being crushed under a rock for 5 days. The true story of how a small time boxer beat the odds to achieve sporting glory. Real life is intruding into the glamorous world of the Academy Awards this year, and it won't be for the first time.

King George VI, who found himself on the throne on the abdication of his elder brother, was faced with the daunting prospect of overcoming a nervous stutter to be able to address the British public. Helped along by a speech therapist who remained a lifelong friend, his story is chronicled by actors Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush in The King's Speech. The Royals have long been Oscar favourites, as have other historical figures. Elizabeth I went to the Oscars not once, but five times. Cate Blanchett played her twice, Judi Dench played her in Shakespeare In Love and won Best Supporting Actress. Jean Simmons played the Virgin Queen in Young Bess and a toddler Elizabeth appears at the conclusion of Anne Of A Thousand Days. ( Read Oscars 2011 Time more... )

Spartacus Season 3

Spartacus Season 3
Spartacus Season 3 In 2012 – Catch The Season 2 Finale Here!

Yes, that’s right. Those of us who are Spartacus: Gods of the Arena fans are now going to have to wait until January 2012 for Spartacus Season 3 to begin!

One reason for the long hiatus is that he title character, Spartacus who was played by Andy Whitfield, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and ended up leaving the show after the Season 1 final taping. Starz didn’t even know if there would be another season. While trying to figure if Season 2 would happen, they decided to tape Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, which didn’t contain the Spartacus character. In the meantime, a new Spartacus, actor Liam McIntyre, was chosen and will pick up the sword in Whitfield’s place. ( Read Spartacus Season 3 more... )

'Spartacus' Season 3 Technically Coming Next Year

Spartacus Season 3 hasn't really been approved. But technically, Spartacus Season 3 is really on the way next year, nonetheless. This reflects the unusual history that this series has been through since its debut.

After the first year, they had to put in the prequel series, Gods of the Arena, while they figured out how they could bring back the original show. By counting Gods of the Arena as part of the franchise, it means Spartacus Season 3 is coming next year, although it's only the second year with the main character. Spartacus Season 3 to Premiere in 2012

What about Spartacus season 3? Many are complaining for the fact that Spartacus: Gods of the Arena was short-lived. The finale, episode 6, played last night with a bloody combat. The prequel of “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” and its backstories of characters had set up the events of the next full season of ‘Spartacus,’ which is set to premiere in early 2012.

Yes, we will be seeing more adventures of Batiatus’ gladiators in Spartacus season 3. ( Read Spartacus Season 3 more... )

Spartacus Season 3: “Gods of the Arena” Prequel

Spartacus Season 3: “Gods of the Arena” prequel is an engaging series to watch. Although the series is perceived by many as about sex, violence and gore, the story is meaty and explores credibly that barbaric time when the Romans used gladiators to entertain them.

The rise of Spartacus in the House of Batiatus against Crixus another gladiator is a fascinating story. Gaia was a beauty to behold in spite of her non-satiable appetite for physical pleasure. All the actors in the series are outstanding as each of them was able to depict a sterling performance for each of her or his role. ( Read Spartacus Season 3 more... )

Gluck's Iphigenie en Tauride at The Met
