Burj Dubai - Gedung Tertinggi Dunia 2008

Rekor Gedung Tertinggi Dunia yang sekarang di Pegang Oleh Taiwan dengan 101 Tower akhirnya dipecahkan oleh Burj Dubai.

Burj Dubai atau Menara Dubai yang berdiri tegak di Jalan Sheikh Zayed, Dubai, Uni Emirat Arab (UEA), telah menjadi bangunan tertinggi di dunia dengan ketinggian sampai 800 meter lebih!

Emaar Properties yang mengerjakan proyek pembangunan gedung itu mengatakan, jika pembangunan selesai, Burj Dubai akan memiliki sekitar 160 lantai, 56 elevator, apartemen, kolam renang, spa, hotel pertama milik disainer kondang Giorgio Armani dan tempat observasi di lantai 124.

Dimulai sejak 1.276 hari lalu atau sejak Januari 2004, bangunan ini bertambah tinggi satu lantai setiap tiga hari. Jika selesai, Burj Dubai menjadi bangunan tertinggi dunia, melampaui gedung pencakar langit lain di dunia,seperti menara Petronas di Malaysia, Sears Tower di Chicago,dan Empire State Building di New York,Amerika Serikat. Pencakar langit baru ini akan berfungsi sebagai pusat bisnis, apartemen mewah,pertokoan,perkantoran, dan hotel lengkap dengan kolam renang dan lain sebagainya. Untuk saat ini, Burj Dubai masih belum menunjukkan keanggunan sebagai sebuah mahakarya.

Menurut Direktur Proyek Emaar Properties Greg Sang, seperti dikutip Associated Press, Burj Dubai akan menjadi simbol Dubai sebagai salah satu kota di dunia. Sementara itu, ketuanya Muhammad Ali Alabbar mengatakan, Dubai terinspirasi untuk membangun sebuah ikon global.

Pembangunan gedung yang dimulai 21 September 2004 lalu, rencananya selesai pada akhir 2007. Titik tertinggi gedung ini diperkirakan bisa terlihat dari jarak 100 kilometer.

Sebelum ini, ada beberapa gedung yang mencapai rekor gedung tertinggi di dunia. Antara lain Empire State Building di New York, AS (381 meter); Jin Mao Building di Shanghai (421 meter); Sears Tower di Chicago (442 meter) dan Petronas Tower di Malaysia (452 meter).

The Color of Plants on Other Worlds

Key Concepts

• What color will alien plants be? The question matters scientifically because the surface color of a planet can reveal whether anything lives there—specifically, whether organisms collect energy from the parent star by the process of photosynthesis.
• Photosynthesis is adapted to the spectrum of light that reaches organisms. This spectrum is the result of the parent star’s radiation spectrum, combined with the filtering effects of the planet’s atmosphere and, for aquatic creatures, of liquid water.
• Light of any color from deep violet through the near-infrared could power photosynthesis. Around stars hotter and bluer than our sun, plants would tend to absorb blue light and could look green to yellow to red. Around cooler stars such as red dwarfs, planets receive less visible light, so plants might try to absorb as much of it as possible, making them look black.

The prospect of finding extraterrestrial life is no longer the domain of science fiction or UFO hunters. Rather than waiting for aliens to come to us, we are looking for them. We may not find technologically advanced civilizations, but we can look for the physical and chemical signs of fundamental life processes: “biosignatures.” Beyond the solar system, astronomers have discovered more than 200 worlds orbiting other stars, so-called extrasolar planets. Although we have not been able to tell whether these planets harbor life, it is only a matter of time now. Last July astronomers confirmed the presence of water vapor on an extrasolar planet by observing the passage of starlight through the planet’s atmosphere. The world’s space agencies are now developing telescopes that will search for signs of life on Earth-size planets by observing the planets’ light spectra.

Photosynthesis, in particular, could produce very conspicuous biosignatures. How plausible is it for photosynthesis to arise on another planet? Very. On Earth, the process is so successful that it is the foundation for nearly all life. Although some organisms live off the heat and methane of oceanic hydrothermal vents, the rich ecosystems on the planet’s surface all depend on sunlight.

Photosynthetic biosignatures could be of two kinds: biologically generated atmospheric gases such as oxygen and its product, ozone; and surface colors that indicate the presence of specialized pigments such as green chlorophyll. The idea of looking for such pigments has a long history. A century ago astronomers sought to attribute the seasonal darkening of Mars to the growth of vegetation. They studied the spectrum of light reflected off the surface for signs of green plants. One difficulty with this strategy was evident to writer H. G. Wells, who imagined a different scenario in The War of the Worlds: “The vegetable kingdom in Mars, instead of having green for a dominant colour, is of a vivid blood-red tint.” Although we now know that Mars has no surface vegetation (the darkening is caused by dust storms), Wells was prescient in speculating that photosynthetic organisms on another planet might not be green.

Even Earth has a diversity of photosynthetic organisms besides green plants. Some land plants have red leaves, and underwater algae and photosynthetic bacteria come in a rainbow of colors. Purple bacteria soak up solar infrared radiation as well as visible light. So what will dominate on another planet? And how will we know when we see it? The answers depend on the details of how alien photosynthesis adapts to light from a parent star of a different type than our sun, filtered through an atmosphere that may not have the same composition as Earth’s.

Harvesting Light
In trying to figure out how photosynthesis might operate on other planets, the first step is to explain it on Earth. The energy spectrum of sunlight at Earth’s surface peaks in the blue-green, so scientists have long scratched their heads about why plants reflect green, thereby wasting what appears to be the best available light. The answer is that photosynthesis does not depend on the total amount of light energy but on the energy per photon and the number of photons that make up the light.

Whereas blue photons carry more energy than red ones, the sun emits more of the red kind. Plants use blue photons for their quality and red photons for their quantity. The green photons that lie in between have neither the energy nor the numbers, so plants have adapted to absorb fewer of them.

The basic photosynthetic process, which fixes one carbon atom (obtained from carbon dioxide, CO2) into a simple sugar molecule, requires a minimum of eight photons. It takes one photon to split an oxygen-hydrogen bond in water (H2O) and thereby to obtain an electron for biochemical reactions. A total of four such bonds must be broken to create an oxygen molecule (O2). Each of those photons is matched by at least one additional photon for a second type of reaction to form the sugar. Each photon must have a minimum amount of energy to drive the reactions.

Orang2 inilah yang disebut April Fools atau secara harafiah berarti orang2 yang tertipu di bulan April.

JUMPER Movie Review!

For those who prefer their superheroes served up with a dark side - and their nasty avengers tinged with a dash of morals - Jumper playfully toys more than a little with that unconventional premise, while delivering high voltage screen action. Based on the 1992 sci-fi novel by Stephen Gould and helmed by Bourne Identity and Swingers director Doug Liman, Jumper swings into a different kind of action less about power plays hitting on women - though there is plenty of that too - than a reality-transcending travel through space rather than time, dubbed teleporting.

Hayden Christensen is David, the Jumper in question, a shy, nerdy Michigan high schooler from a troubled family who suddenly finds himself quite by chance, a mixed-blessing accidental tourist embarking to just about anywhere on earth on a mere whim, as he discovers to both his delight and dismay. Abandoned by his mother (Diane Lane) when he was just five and stuck at home with a moody, alcoholic dad (Michael Rooker), David has been escaping emotionally from his miserable situation into romantic daydreams about his classmate, Millie (Rachel Bilson).

But when he gets up the nerve to present her with a gift one day that a bully rival grabs and tosses onto a frozen lake, David makes an ill-advised impulsive decision to go retrieve it, and falls through the ice. As David struggles to survive this life-threatening crisis, his teleporting superpowers kick in, to his utter surprise, and catapult him into the local library, ice water and all.

David slowly gets it that he possesses the awesome power to hit multiple destinations around the planet in seconds and walk through walls - even if he leaves all sorts of gaping holes and wrecked plaster behind him. The both stunned and elated, suddenly self-emancipated high schooler is soon slipping through bank vault doors and amassing a fortune, which he uses to fund jaunts around the planet sightseeing and seducing women.

And while the authorities are simply baffled, a covert Jumper-exterminating organization, the Paladins, catches his scent and is on the hunt to exterminate this out-of-control kid tampering with nature, subverting the social system, and messing up the environment by ripping dangerous holes in the ozone layer to slip through and, well, party hard. Samuel Jackson, doing super-mean and ready to rumble as head Paladin Roland, is gunning for David and on his heels every airborne step of the way, and wielding a really scary super-sized zapping taser prod.

Far from your typical futuristic action adventure, with mumbling monosyllabic warriors, flashy, monotonous battle scenes and generic personalities, Jumper has all of that and lots more. Hayden's emotionally torn and morally flawed character defies not just the constraints of space and gravity, but predictability as well. As such, there's plenty of intrigue when it comes to behavior and clash of personalities as well as clashes of enemies in battle. Though Jackson's malicious avenger is far too mysterious and lacking in fully explained motivations, a plot flaw that is likely to be cleared up in the sequel that of course threatens to hit theaters in the very near future.

After being checked in the boxI, was found by me the letter from the side google adsense, my AdSense account was fraud clicking in some blog.

Setengah percaya, setengah tidak kubaca lagi isi surat dari pihak AdSense itu, weh.. ternyata beneran account adsense ku telah di nonaktifkan!

Duh.. sedih sekaligus kesal juga, kupikir - pikir, mungkin ada 'fraud clicking'!

Mungkin ada beberapa yang usil atau sekedar menjahili, tapi yang sudah terjadi biarkanlah, mungkin itu membuat ku lebih waspada dan berhati - hati.

Japanese Pop Singer - YUI

This time for my favourite Japanese Pop Singer, Yui.

Yui is a Japanese J-pop/J-rock artist, born March 26th, 1987 in Fukuoka, Japan. She is signed to Sony Music Records Japan.

YUI began writing poems in ninth grade. At the age of sixteen on the recommendation of a friend she began studying songwriting and guitar at a private music school in her hometown of Fukuoka. Aspiring to become a professional, she carried her guitar around and sang at local places such as the seashore of Shingu and in the middle of rice fields at Kaminofu. Even though she was shy she still enjoyed doing street performances in the Tenjin district of Fukuoka.

Her professional career began in March 2004 when she sang three songs at an audition hosted by Sony Music Japan. Despite the audition rule that a participant could only sing two songs, all of the judges gave her the highest score possible which caused a fierce scramble among record labels to sign her. She first sang "Why Me" (a song later included in her major label debut single), followed by "It's Happy Line" and "I Know". "It's Happy Line" was her debut indie single with "I Know" as the b-side.

Upon leaving her hometown in Fukuoka for Tokyo, YUI wrote the song "Feel My Soul". She was planning its release on an indie label as a tribute to her hometown, when the song caught the ears of Fuji TV producer Mr. Yamaguchi, who just happened to see the demo video clip. He claimed that YUI's voice haunted him so much that he went out of his way to visit the recording studio all by himself. He even made his channel's prime time drama Fukigen na Gene use YUI's debut track.

On February 23, YUI released her first major debut single, "Feel My Soul" The music in Fukigen na Gene was mainly based on YUI's songs such as 'Feel My Soul' and 'It's Happy Line'. With the drama tie-in "Feel My Soul" managed to sell over 100,000 copies. YUI's next three singles, "Tomorrow's Way", "Life", and "Tokyo" did not chart as high as Feel My Soul did and were only moderately successful in comparison. After the release of four singles YUI released her debut album From Me to You, which is another moderate success with sales of more than 200,000 copies.

Many months later, YUI starred in a movie released on June 17, 2006, titled Taiyou No Uta-Midnight Sun, which was screened at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. YUI's 5th single, "Good-bye Days", was written for this film and is by far her highest selling single at 200,000 copies sold. "I Remember You" her next single, did fairly well boosted by "Good-bye Days"' popularity. Soon after, YUI's 7th single "Rolling Star" was chosen by the anime series Bleach to be the 5th opening theme song; her third single, "Life", had previously been chosen as the 5th ending theme song. "CHE.R.RY", her 8th single, was used as a song for the KDDI au Listen Mobile Service CM. Her second album, Can't Buy My Love, fared well on the Oricon charts, staying for two weeks at #1 and shattering her entire previous album's record sales in one week. So far, Can't Buy My Love has managed to sell over 500,000 copies. Due to the success of Can't Buy My Love, YUI's previous album charted once again to add another 9k or so to the Oricon counting.

She released her 9th single, "My Generation / Understand", on 13 June 2007. This was the very first time that YUI released a double A-side single. My Generation is the theme song for the drama "Seito Shokun!", and Understand is the theme song for the movie "Sidecar ni Inu."

Her 10th single, "Love & Truth", released on September 26th, is the theme song to Erika Sawajiri's film, Closed Note. Erika Sawajiri played YUI's role of Amane Kaoru in the TV series adaptation of Taiyou no Uta.
