Skinner a big hit at the Bistro

RALEIGH The Backyard Bistro has never needed a security detail for a Canes Corner appearance before, but it did Thursday night.

Jeff Skinner was in the house on Trinity Road, and the Canes rookie took it by storm. The place was packed well before 5 p.m. for the 6 p.m. radio show, as if another Canadian celebrity — that teenage singer, what's his name -- was stopping by

"I love you Jeff!" a female fan shouted as he made his way to the stage for the show amid a big ovation. Skinner took it all in stride, smiling and thoughtfully answering the questions posed by Canes Corner host Mike Maniscalco. ( Read Jeff Skinner more... )

Skinner, not Hall, leads Calder pack

At the start of the 2010-11 season, most of the rookie hype surrounded around Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin. However, right now, those pre-season favorites aren't the frontrunners for the rookie of the year award, making this a very intriguing Calder Memorial Trophy race. 'Canes Skinner draws huge crowd at Fan Fest

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The line for Jeff Skinner's autograph extended so far inside NHL Fan Fair on Friday there was simply no way the Hurricanes 18-year-old rookie was going to be able to get his signature on everything that could have been offered to him during his hour-long signing session.

It didn't matter. The fans here are in the midst of such a love affair with Skinner that simply being near him -- getting close to see his genuine smile and feel his easy-going attitude -- was enough, autograph or not. ( Read Jeff Skinner more... )

NHL All-Star Game: Shirts And Skinner

When Jeff Skinner was named to the NHL All-Star Game yesterday as an injury replacement, it made him the NHL’s youngest All-Star of all time. Sort of.
