The great Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachchan received his fourth National Award in the 57th National Films Awards. He was awarded with the ‘best actor’ for his performance in ‘Paa’. The Awards were presented by President Pratibha Patil in New Delhi yesterday.
When Big B walked on the stage to receive the honor, the audience gave him the standing ovation. Receiving such an honor from audience, his eyes went moist. “A sense of great pride. The President of India presenting award for Best Actor for Paa. Eyes moist as the audience gives a standing ovation. Which in formal functions is an abnormality. The president whispers to me ‘I have seen your film and loved it’. I gave an embarrassed laugh,” Amitabh wrote on his blog bigb.bigadda.com.
“Thank you India for this national recognition,” he added
Paa also won the Best Feature Film award. Abhishek Bacchan received his first ever National Award for ‘Paa’, his debut production. Big B said he felt proud watching son Abhishek walking up the stage to collect the award.
“Felt a sense of pride and happiness to see Abhishek walk up to the president for his award as producer for Paa,” he said.
“But really .. a wonderful moment for the family – Jaya, Aishwarya, Niky (son-in-law Nikhil Nanda) and Shweta (daughter), all in the audience, cheering and applauding and feeling pride and passion for the moment,” he added.
Other than the Bachchan Family, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Film for ‘Delhi 6′. Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan won the Best Debutante Director award for his sports-based film ‘Lahore’. Veteran actor Farooq Shaikh won the best supporting actor award for ‘Lahore’.
Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani won the award for the Most Popular Film for ’3 Idiots’. Director Shyam Benegal’s ‘Well Done Abba’ walked away with Best Film on Social Issues. Films from Bollywood walked away with 15 awards at the gala here Friday evening.
