Austin Marathon Is Today, But Would You Use An App To Run A Race?
Countless people do marathons every year in the United States, however, I'm not sure any of them use their iPhones when they're on the course.
For today's Austin marathon, there is an app that you can download to your phone that you can use to track your progress on the course as you're running. Sure, it's great if you're a family member and you want to see how your loved one is doing, but if you've ever used an iPhone, they aren't exactly simple to use when you're moving. Austin Marathon celebrates 20 years
The 2011 Austin Marathon and Half Marathon is now underway.
It’s in its 20th year and hosting an expected field of more than 20,000 runners, the highest in the races history.
The race kicked off at 7 a.m. at Congress Avenue and 16th street. For post-race entertainment, more than 30 local Austin bands are playing along the course, with El Tule headlining.
Road closures began at 3:00am near the start line; the course will be closed to motor vehicles by 6:45am for the 7:00am start. Roads will reopen on a rolling schedule following the last runner. Please plan ahead and be aware of the closures in your area. ( Read Austin Marathon more... )
Austin Marathon – Final Pre-Race Thoughts
We’re inside 24 hours from the start of the 20th running of the Austin Marathon.
The weather forecast for Sunday is not a favorable one for the runners.
63 degrees at the start of the race, increasing up to 75 by Noon.
Humidity at 96% at 7:00 a.m. when the starter’s gun fires and winds around 8-10 mph.
It should be a great day to spectate and the Austin crowds should be out in full force encouraging the runners along the 26.2 mile loop course. ( Read Austin Marathon more... )

Debra Saleny
Saleny has been the director of USA Fit Austin's training programs for runners and walkers for 16 years. In that capacity, she formed the first marathon training group in Austin.
John Ferguson

Are you running the LiveStrong Austin Marathon or Half Marathon this weekend?
The current weather forecast calls for a warm day — low of 57 and high of 73 with a 10 percent chance of rain.
Ouch. That sounds a little too warm to me, but at least there’s no sign of another freak ice storm in the near future.
The Health & Fitness Expo, which includes packet pickup, is scheduled for 3 p.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday at the Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Road.

LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon underway
AUSTIN (KXAN) - The 2011 LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon is underway in downtown Austin this Sunday.
As race participants make their way to the finish line drivers in the Austin area will find many road closures, including Congress Avenue near the Capitol.
The first winner of the race Sunday, Karen Killeen, told KXAN Austin News this is her first race in six years. " I honestly came out today just to see who I was. Just glad to be out in the environment again. Just to test my fitness." Killeen ran the 3-mile portion of the womens 5k in 18 minutes. ( Read Austin Marathon more... )
