Brewers trade for ace pitcher

MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers are going all in for 2011, acquiring former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke in a trade with the Kansas City Royals.

The Royals announced Sunday that they acquired shortstop Alcides Escobar, outfielder Lorenzo Cain and right-handed pitching prospects Jake Odorizzi and Jeremy Jeffress from the Brewers in exchange for Greinke, shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt and cash considerations. PHOENIX -- Prince Fielder stayed behind after a recent Milwaukee Brewers spring workout to film a television spot parodying the way opponents pitch around him.

In real life, that situation was not a laughing matter early last season.

After the slugging first baseman pounded 46 home runs and tied for the major-league lead with 141 runs batted in during the 2009 season, opponents decided to avoid throwing strikes to him whenever possible.
