Marine Corps Marathon: 2011 Marine Corps Marathon Registration Today

Enrollment for the 36th Marine Corps Marathon is today at noon.

The marathon which takes place on Oct. 30 will feature up to 30,000 runners.

The registration is today at noon because it marks the anniversary of the flag raising during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II.

Service members who missed early registration can still sign up with the general public today.

Marine Corps Marathon 2011 entries open at noon

Enrollment for the 36th Marine Corps Marathon, opens at noon (EST) today.

The "People's marathon," which is open to 30,000 runners, will take place Oct. 30. Air Force 2nd Lt. Jacob Bradosky was the men's winner last year with a time of 2 hours 23 minutes 30 seconds. Janet Cherobon was the women's winner in 2:42 minutes.38.

Marine Corps Marathon 2011 Registration Starts

The Marine Corps Marathon registration open today, February 23, 2011 at noon ET. To run the Marine Corps Marathon, you must be 14 years of age by October 30th, 2011.

During registration, a runner’s bib number will be noted on the E-Card confirmation. All runners must print this card using the confirmation number received after registration. Last day to register for Marine Corps Marathon

Active duty and reserve service members wishing to participate in the Oct. 30 Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., better do it quickly — early registration ends Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST.

The early registration fee is $76.50 for troops.

Once service member registration is closed, things get trickier. The field opens to the general public at noon EST Wednesday, the 66th anniversary of the flag-raising on Iwo Jima. Beginning Wednesday, February 23, 2011, runners can register at www.marinemarathon.com - QUANTICO, Va. - Starting at noon on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, runners can register for the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) at www.marinemarathon.com. The 36th MCM will be held on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011.

The 2011 registration date falls on the anniversary of the American flag raisings during the Battle of Iwo Jima. According to the Marine Corps History Division at Marine Corps University, the American flag was raised 66 years ago on Mount Suribachi on February 23, 1945, while the battle ensued. Runners from around the world are preparing to register for the 36th annual Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). The date commemorates the anniversary of the flag raisings during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II, Mount Suibachi on Feb. 3, 1945, while the battle proceeded.
