Deep Frying a Turkey - It’s Thanksgiving Day once again and Americans have a lot to be thankful for. At the very least, they can be thankful that they’re about to enjoy a very hearty Thanksgiving dinner. A lot of families are looking for several ways to make the dinner more scrumptious, including deep frying a turkey.
Thanksgiving has always meant chillier temperatures for me, growing up in Utah and now living in Indiana. I sometimes forget that there are people celebrating Thanksgiving in shorts with the air conditioning on. Why on Earth would someone want to have their oven on all day when the weather is so nice outside? For those of you lucky enough to be in the sunshine at this time of year choosing to grill or smoke your turkey is not only easy, but it frees up your oven for other side dishes and frees up your house from all that extra heat. C’mon, look at that fancy grill outside.
With Thanksgiving upon us, many cooks try to measure the appropriate turkey cooking times but experts indicate that this timeframe is best determined by the weight of the turkey as well as if it will be made by roasting or deep frying.
The deep frying method has become more popular over the last few years as cookers have become more available. But often, this method has disastrous consequences as people do not properly prepare the device or do not thaw the turkey fully. The biggest issue with fires involving deep fryers is the overflow of oil on to the open flame when the turkey is placed into the fryer causing fire.
