Sony introduces the PSP2 (codename NGP) at Tokyo Game Show
Sony has announced its next generation portable entertainment system (codename: NGP), which the company says "delivers the ultimate portable entertainment experience". The new portable gaming platform will make its debut at the end of the year 2011.
The NGP will offer gamers a new combination of gaming and social connectivity within a real world context. The device has both Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity, and will enables users to connect, share and play with friends wherever they are. ( Readmore... )
Sony unveils new 'NGP' portable PlayStation
Japanese entertainment giant Sony on Thursday unveiled a portable touchscreen PlayStation as it looks to launch a challenge to Nintendo and Apple in the highly competitive mobile gaming market. Sony's "Next Generation Portable" PlayStation boasts 3G mobile connectivity and wifi, allowing users to
download games and other content, Sony said at a news conference in Tokyo.
The NGP features a five-inch OLED touchscreen that can be viewed from multiple angles, a GPS receiver, a motion sensor and a rear panel touchpad to control certain actions, as well as conventional navigation buttons and a joystick. ( Readmore... )
Sony announces PSP successor codenamed NGP
Sony has announced it’s next generation portable gaming system or “NGP” formerly known as the PSP2. The system, will have “PlayStation 3″ level graphics, a 5-inch touch pannel on back of the system and a 5-inch 960×544 OLED touch screen on front. Form factor-wise the system will look very much like the original PSP system.
Content will be delivered via network and on flash-based media cards that look similar to the ones used on the Nintendo DS. The unit will also include the same gyroscopic sensor as the PlayStation Move for movement-based control. The new system will not support the UMD format from the first PSP. PlayStation Suite for Android and NGP Coming in Late 2011
Sony has officially announced PlayStation Suite for Android smartphones and tablets, including a PlayStation Store. Sony also showed off the NGP.
Engadget reports that Sony will launch a new PlayStation Suite for platforms such as Android, an initiative that aims to provide Sony's PlayStation experience to all Android smartphones and tablets. ( Readmore... )

Metal Gear Solid 4 Tech Demo Shown On NGP
Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima took the stage as this year’s PlayStation Meeting to show off a tech demo of Metal Gear Solid 4 running on the PSP2, or NGP as it’s tentatively known.
While Kojima was keen to note that the demonstration was merely a test, not an actual product, it’s certainly a testament to the NGP’s capabilities. You have to take into account the demo was essentially a quick and dirty port of MGS4 with all original PS3 assets intact. Despite the lack of optimization, NGP runs it admirably. ( Readmore... )
