Tony Steward Commits To Clemson Over Florida State Giving Tigers Top Linebacker
Tony Steward continues a trend of out-of-state ventures for top 100 commits this morning by committing to Clemson University. Luginbill’s on television saying Steward liked Clemson’s small-town atmosphere, but it’s worth nothing that he’s also committing to a defense run by the Tigers’ defensive coordinator Kevin Steele. Steele is a linebackers guru, and was likely a serious edge in the recruitment of the nation’s number one outside linebacker prospect.
(He’s also a former Florida State assistant, though whether he gave any inside intelligence on the darker side of Tallahassee living is in the course of Steward’s recruitment is unknown. No one in college ever recruits negatively. Nope. Never.) ( Read Tony Steward more... )
Tony Steward not afraid to compete among crowded group of linebackers at Florida State, coach says
As I wrote about here in this story posted on the site earlier today, Tony Steward, one of Florida State’s top remaining targets in the class of 2012, isn’t afraid to compete for playing time among the Seminoles crowded bunch of linebackers. That, at least, is what is coach at St. Augustine Menendez High has to say about it.
Steward, one of the top uncommitted players in the nation, will on Wednesday morning announce his decision. He’s deciding between Florida State – long considered his favorite – and Clemson, which has done a good job down the stretch of narrowing the gap. In fact, Menendez coach Keith Cromwell said, Steward remained “genuinely torn” about his decision as recently as this morning. ( Read Tony Steward more... )

Tony Steward, Tony Stewart was scheduled to sign with Florida State and adds to the Seminoles’ recruiting class strong. But Dabo Swinney Clemson coach will coach the player considered a No. 1 nation inside linebacker by rivals.com. “I felt like the best school for me was Clemson,” Stewart told a reporter yesterday for the Jacksonville Times-Union. “When I visited, I was ready to commit. I waited to hear from other schools. Ultimately, I had to make that decision for me. I think I can get on the field early in Clemson and I felt comfortable and felt at ease with people.“ ( Read Tony Steward more... )
Tony Steward's showcase may open more doors for Menendez
The excitement that began for Menendez High School last June will hit its peak shortly after 10 on Wednesday morning. That's when football player Tony Steward's college choice — either Florida State, Clemson or a recruiting darkhorse — will be televised live on ESPN.
That doesn't mean the electric atmosphere that's been around the Menendez campus is going to subside once the cameras roll out of town. Steward is well aware that his time on national television and the exposure that it brings to the school and southern part of the county will go on beyond this week. ( Read Tony Steward more... )
Tony Steward chooses Clemson
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A huge Florida State presence greeted highly recruited linebacker Tony Steward when he walked into Menendez High School‘s packed gymnasium Wednesday morning. Students wore FSU T-shirts. They held a Florida State garnet-colored banner. They had known that Steward was a lifelong FSU fan, as was his mom.
But when Steward announced at precisely 10:03 a.m. that he had chosen to accept a scholarship offer at Clemson University instead of FSU, a few students wearing Clemson orange shirts jumped up to celebrate. ( Read Tony Steward more... )
