Colin Firth, Melissa Leo, Randy Newman, Natalie Portman, Aaron Sorkin, et al. Win Academy Awards

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards were presented on Sunday, February 27 and aired live on ABC. Anne Hathaway and James Franco co-hosted tthe ceremony.

Best Picture was awarded to The King's Speech, while Tom Hooper was named Best Director for his work on the film .Acting winners included stage veterans Colin Firth (The King's Speech), Natalie Portman (Black Swan), and Melissa Leo (The Fighter). In addition, Christian Bale was named Best Supporting Actor for The Fighter.

Playwright Aaron Sorkin won Best Adapted Screenplay for The Social Network, while.Best Original Screenplay was awarded to David Seidler for The King's Speech. The award for Best Animated Film was given to Toy Story 3. ( Read Randy Newman more... )

Oscars: 'Toy Story 3's' Randy Newman wins for original song

"We Belong Together" from the film "Toy Story 3," with music and lyrics by Randy Newman, won the Oscar for original song Sunday night at the 83rd Academy Awards.

Newman, who had received his 20th Oscar nomination for the song, also sang it in the film. His lone previous win came in 2002 for his original song "If I Didn't Have You" from "Monsters, Inc." Before tonight, he'd been nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song nineteen times, and only won once. Now, he's two for twenty. "We Belong Together," the spunky piano-rock number from Pixar's "Toy Story 3" earned him the golden statuette. The "Short People" singer, who last won in 2001 with "I Didn't Have You" from "Monsters, Inc." -- another Pixar film -- seemed shocked to take the award, and his halting acceptance speech was an unconventional one. Randy Newman won his second Academy Award Sunday evening for the song “We Belong Together” from the animated film Toy Story 3.

Newman has been nominated 20 times for the Oscar, having won the statue previously for Best Song in 2001 with “If I Didn’t Have You” for the animated film Monsters, Inc.

Randy Newman Performs 'We Belong Together' from 'Toy Story 3' at Oscars

Venerable Hollywood songsmith Randy Newman performed Toy Story 3 theme song "We Belong Together" Sunday night at the Oscars. The song is one of four nominated for Best Original Song at this year's awards ceremony.

Randy performed the song alone on the vast Oscar stage with nothing but a piano during the show. This is the 19h time he has been nominated for an Academy Award. Randy's song was nominated along with three others: "If I Rise" from 127 Hours, written by A.R. Rahman, Dido and Rollo; "Coming Home" from Country Strong, written by Tom Douglas, Hillary Lindsey and Troy Verges; and "I See the Light" from Tangled, written by Alan Menken.
