Thousands take to the streets in Great Aloha Run

More than 23,000 participants crossed the finish line of today's Great Aloha Run between Aloha Tower and Aloha Stadium.

Under cloudy skies and humid conditions, the 8.15 mile run got underway just before 7 a.m. with military runners in formation and wheelchair entrants. The rest of the pack started at 7 a.m.

According to the event's organizers, 27,233 people signed up for the run while 23,254 people crossed the finish line. Participation was up about 3,000 from last year's event, organizers said. ( Read Great Aloha Run more... )

Great Aloha Run- Race Report

I didn't go under an hour. But I'm very happy with my race. I knew the under an hour goal was a stretch. But I threw it out there to help me meet my other goal of just being uncomfortable the entire race.

I don't like pain. I don't like to be uncomfortable for very long. I'm not good at suffering during races. I have no mental toughness. Basically, I'm a wimp. Especially when I have nothing on the line. I race conservatively.

I'm always afraid of blowing up so I let up. I went into the run expecting to blow up at mile 6. If it happened earlier, oh well. If it happened later, even better. ( Read Great Aloha Run more... )

Great Aloha Run to kick off on President's Day

lu - Hawaii runners everywhere, including those in the Armed Services, are lacing up for the Kaiser Permanente Great Aloha Run, scheduled for Feb. 21.

The race, which is 8.5 miles long, starts from Aloha Tower in Honolulu and ends at Aloha Stadium. Participants of all ages are encouraged to attend. ( Read Great Aloha Run more... )

Local Chapter of Ilchi Lee Peace Association Supports Great Aloha Run in Hawaii

On February 21, members of the Hawaii chapter of the Ilchi Lee peace non-governmental organization known as the International Brain Education Association (IBREA) will participate in the Great Aloha Run, an 8.15 mile walk from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. The event is one of many in the community that the local IBREA chapter endeavors to join or support as part of the Earth Citizen Movement.

IBREA hopes to promote peace and Earth awareness by helping local and international charities and encouraging the contributions of individuals. One of Hawaii’s largest participatory races, the Great Aloha Run is in its twenty-seventh year and will benefit the Carole Kai charities. ( Read Great Aloha Run more... )

Thousands take part in Great Aloha Run

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Thousands of people have taken part in the 27th annual charity race, the Great Aloha Run this Presidents Day.

The first male runner to finish is Brandon Laan. The first female runner to finish is Lanni Marchant. And the first wheelchair winner is Peter Hershorn

The 8.15-mile relatively flat course starts at Aloha Tower in Downtown Honolulu, winds its way along the historic Honolulu Harbor, down Nimitz Highway, Kamehameha Highway and into the Aloha Stadium. ( Read Great Aloha Run more... )

20% More Turn Out For Great Aloha Run

Participants Make Way From Aloha Tower To Aloha Stadium

HONOLULU -- More than 20,000 people hit the streets Monday morning as part of the 27th annual Great Aloha Run.

"I was kind of nervous in the beginning because there's so many people very excited. And midway you're like 'I'm going to die' but then you see the stadium and you're just like I can do this," said Marine Morie, who is running for a second year.
