The Westminster dog show is a two-day spectacle that saves its nail-biting best-in-show finale for the end of the second day.

Where do we stand so far? The winners of four out of seven groups (categories of dog breeds arranged by their original purpose, like hunting or herding) -- hound, toy, non-sporting and herding -- were chosen Monday night at Madison Square Garden. Stunning movements move dog show judges

STAUNTON — When Peg Carty saw Finn she knew he was special.

On Monday the Glen of Imaal terrier proved her right by winning best in breed at the Westminster Kennel Club competition, the Super Bowl of dog shows.

Six new dog breeds are being welcomed into The 135th Westminster Dog Show. David Frei presents the new dogs on the Today Show. These new breeds were first chosen by the American Kennel Club based on a variety of statistics.

The Boykin Spaniel, South Carolina's State Dog, is an energetic hunting dog known to work all day, according to the American Kennel Club.

It takes a lot of work to be a Westminster show dog. There is the endless training, the exhausting travel to shows around the country and in the case of Smartie the Maltese, above, a real commitment to personal grooming. And Paw Nation is covering it all.

Westminster Dog Show 2011: Best in Show to be Announced Tonight

An 85-pound Scottish deerhound called Hickory fared well Monday, winning the hound group. A rookie Pekingese took the toy round, a Chinese shar-pei became the first of its breed to win the nonsporting group and a bearded collie was the herding champ.

Wrinkle At Westminster, Top Dog Up For Grabs

A Chinese shar-pei threw a wrinkle into Westminster.

With no clear favorite to win at America's top dog show, Miss Jayne Hathaway seized her chance. She became the first of her breed to reach the final best-of-seven ring.
