Matsumoto started in the world of show business in 1982 when she moved to Tokyo and got a contract with Watanabe Productions. She debut as a singer a year later under the label VAP with the single "Osu Mesu KISS" while working as a part time talent reporter.

After graduation from high school in 1984, she would go onto appear in various radio programs like All Night Nippon. She would later also appear on variety idols, becoming one of the four Monomane Queen with Matsu Naomi, Saito Rumiko, and Shinozuka Mayumi. She also became an actress later on, starring in the dorama Tatakau Oyomesama in 1995.

In 2001, she gave birth to her first kid, a daughter.
