Poughkeepsie police officer, 2 others killed; baby saved

POUGHKEEPSIE — A series of shootings in a five-minute span killed a 44-year-old officer and left two other people dead Friday afternoon near the Poughkeepsie Train Station.

City of Poughkeepsie police said a man apparently shot and killed his wife in a car in a downtown parking lot, then was fatally wounded in a confrontation with police in which an 18-year veteran of the department was shot in the head. ( Read Poughkeepsie Journal more... )


A City of Poughkeepsie police officer has died after he was shot in the head this afternoon. Police did not release the name of the officer pending notification of his extended family. The suspect and his wife are dead,

The officer underwent surgery at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, City of Poughkeepsie Police Chief Ron Knapp said during a press conference this afternoon. A 3-year-old child involved in the incident is in the custody of police.

Poughkeepsie Journal, A policeman was killed and three policemen wounded in a shooting Friday near a suspect’s state of New York station. The train was shot and later died in hospital after the incident Poughkeepsie, NY, The Poughkeepsie Journal reported. It was not immediately clear what caused the melee, but sources said police were investigating whether it was triggered by a domestic dispute.
