With the anticipation ice and snow arriving into the area today through Wednesday, the Indiana State Police is prepared to meet the needs of motorists, and the public by calling off-duty troopers to duty and putting additional troopers on stand-by. Indiana State Police Dodge Charger hits road, Pendleton District

(Pendleton) Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Chris Noone, Pendleton Post, has been issued a 2010 Dodge Charger patrol car. The Dodge Chargers were issued to the 2008 Indiana State Troopers of the Year from each state police district. Lt. Bob Burke, Commander of the Pendleton Post stated, “Senior Trooper Noone is very deserving of being named Trooper of the Year for the Pendleton Post.” Burke went on to state, “Noone has made over 1000 drunken driving arrest in his career and over 100 a year in six of those years.” ( Read Indiana State Police more... )
Gov. Daniels calls National Guard to assist Indiana State Police

Indiana governor Mitch Daniels has called for the state’s National Guard to assist Indiana state police in helping rescue stranded motorists.

Roughly 850 Indiana National Guardsmen were called up this week to provide emergency help across the northern half of the state, including the Interstate 70 corridor across the state.( Read Indiana State Police more... )

Indiana National Guard on alert to help with ice storm

Indianapolis —
The Indiana National Guard is on alert to step in and help should any emergency arrive in the state due to winter storm. Tuesday afternoon, soldiers were mobilizing at their armories. Whether it's rescuing people or clearing downed trees, the troops are ready to go at a moment's notice.

The National Guard is one of about 12 agencies that all began coordinating Monday night through the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

The Guard's first step was to deploy soldiers around the state in areas anticipated to have the most severe weather. Obviously, ice has been a big part of the threat so they began along the Interstate 70 corridor and points north to Kokomo.( Read Indiana State Police more... )

State Agencies Gearing Up for Round Two of Winter Storm

Several state agencies are gearing up for the second round of this latest winter storm.

About 865 Indiana National Guard soldiers have been placed at armories in anticipation of more freezing rain, sleet and snow.

Indiana National Guard Director of Operations Col. Ron Westfall says the soldiers are prepared to help Indiana State Police with highway assistance teams.

Indiana State Police First Sgt. Dave Bursten says most crashes have been minor slide-offs. ( Read Indiana State Police more... )
