Jazz coach Jerry Sloan to resign Thursday; Ty Corbin to replace
UPDATE #2, 4:39 pm: It has been confirmed now by the Salt Lake Tribune and other sources that current Jazz assistant Ty Corbin will take over as the Jazz interim head coach.
UPDATE 2:38 pm: This is about as official as it will get until Sloan steps up to the podium, Jazz players are calling their agents saying Sloan is out, according to a tweet from Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Most expect Ty Corbin to get the job.

Tyrone Corbin to replace Jerry Sloan as head coach of Utah Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY -- Tyrone Corbin is the man who will have the task to move the Jazz organization forward following head coach Jerry Sloan's resignation Thursday.
Make no mistake, this man is ready for this job. He's been on a short list for early head-coaching jobs in the NBA for the past few years. Corbin played in the league for 15 years for eight different teams, including the Jazz.
Corbin spent three years playing for Utah back in the early 90s and came back as an assistant to Jerry Sloan six years ago - a position he has held ever since. It's loyalty and consistency once again for the Jazz as Corbin steps into difficult sneakers, replacing Sloan as head coach. ( Read Ty Corbin more... )
Tyrone Corbin Named Utah Jazz Coach, Replacing Jerry Sloan
As Jerry Sloan formally announced his resignation at a press conference Thursday, the Utah Jazz named Tyrone Corbin the team's new coach. Corbin is in his seventh season with the Jazz, having previously played in the NBA for 15 years (including a stint in Utah).
Sloan's longtime top assistant Phil Johnson resigned, as well, leaving Corbin, who has been considered a top coaching prospect and interviewed with the New Orleans Hornets last summer, to ascend to the top spot. But Corbin's promotion came amid about the most surreal retirement announcement since Magic Johnson. Corbin, sharing the stage with Sloan, Johnson, Jazz GM Kevin O'Connor and Jazz owner Greg Miller (among others), looked like he wanted to disappear. ( Read Ty Corbin more... )
Former Spur Tyrone Corbin replaces Sloan as Utah’s head coach
Former Spur and current Utah Jazz assistant Tyrone Corbin will take over as Utah’s interim head coach after the resignation of Jerry Sloan.
Corbin, 48, started his 15-season NBA career with the Spurs. He was drafted by San Antonio in the second round in the 1985 Draft. He later played for seven other teams during his NBA career, including the Jazz from 1991-94. ( Read Ty Corbin more... )

Thursday, NBA Utah Jazz coach, Jerry Sloan resigned and Tyrone Corbin was named as his replacement. Corbin is a retired journeyman forward, and played for the Jazz at one point.

West's Tyrell Corbin 'so happy' for new Jazz coach — his dad
Amid the shakeup of the Utah Jazz Thursday, Tyrell Corbin was just as surprised as anyone.
The West High point guard arrived at school at 11 a.m. Thursday. He then started receiving text messages. Jerry Sloan was resigning after 22-plus years as the head coach of the Jazz.
“I was sad about that, because he's such a great guy,” Corbin said.
